Treatment Review - LVL Lashes & Free Brows
My first LVL lash experience: Twenty Something By The Sea
I don’t have much experience of lash treatments, or any in fact. Aside from inexpertly gluing false lashes from Boots on my lids as a teenager, I haven’t touched them much. However, mascara is very much part of my daily routine, and so hearing that LVL would mean I didn’t have to faff with that made my ears prick up. As it says on the Nouveau Lash website ‘it’ll give you an extra 10 minutes in bed.’ I mean I’m not sure who is spending 10 minutes solely putting on mascara but okay then.
At Menevia, as Lucy was getting her tools ready, she chatted about why the spa has recently decided to offer LVL as opposed to other lash extension methods. She trained in the other methods in college, and while she felt confident in doing the processes, there always felt like there could be a better way that achieved better results with no damage. ‘I went for the LVL training and as soon as they started I thought “Woah, this is another level”. The detail and intricacy of the process immediately made sense to me, and I’m a total convert!’
Rather than fixing extensions to the lashes, LVL works with what’s already there. The top lashes are permed to create the lift and then top and bottom lashes are tinted. Because the ends of lashes tend to be fairer, the tinting creates the illusion of longer lashes. I’d seen the before and afters and was keen to get started, opting for a ‘Small’ curl which creates the most dramatic effect.
The treatment itself was more relaxing than I had expected. Your eyes are closed for the duration (I was assured I could open them if I needed to, but I figured this would cause more issues than it might fix.) What I had been nervous about actually made me feel totally relaxed, knowing that all I had to do for an hour was essentially nap! Lucy was great, and chatted throughout, making sure she told me what was happening at each stage. The treatment at Menevia comes with a free brow tidy up, which comes after the lashes are completed.
Then for the big reveal! I was genuinely amazed at how much of a difference it made to my face. In fact, even my husband noticed - all be it with the slightly backhanded ‘You look so tired but your eyes are amazing!’ Thanks, honey.
The aftercare instructions are clear - don’t get lashes wet for 24 hours, and stay away from steam for 48 hours else, terrifyingly, your lashes may continue to curl! I’ve also changed my makeup remover as the one I was using is oil-based, which can reduce the lasting effect of the lashes. I’m now 48 hours on, and love them so much that I have a sneaky suspicion this may become a regular thing!
